When your baby cries at bedtime, should you pick them up and cradle them in your arms till they fall asleep?
I have a 4 week old baby and I would like to know if I am spoiling my little muffin...I pick my baby up all the time, every second I hear her start to cry, I'm there. I know I've heard that its not possible to spoil a newborn. Now this is causing my husband and I to argue he thinks I am spoiling her and I hold her to often "HANDS" thats what he says, "You are going to make this child reliant on the the comfort of you and your hands, she won't be able to sleep unless she is picked up" and he says, wait untill when he watches her alone, he doesn't agree to it, and won't be picking her up when she cries like I do... I get mad when he says this and I know he serious thats the sad part, I never want him to be alone with her... but as of may 1st he is the one on materity leave and I don't know what to do? any advice would help... am I doing wrong?
A 4 week old can not be spoiled. My son was the same way when he was first born, he always wanted to be held, and very rarely was able to sleep without being held. We could never put him to bed until he was completely, fast asleep, and even then, sometimes he'd wake right up.
It wasn't until he was about 6-7 months that we started letting him fuss a little and he learned to put himself to sleep.
Do some research, talk to your pediatrician and see if he'll realize that it's impossible to spoil such a young child. It actually makes the baby more independent if you do go right to her when she's crying at such a young age, because she becomes secure and confident that she'll be taken care of.
